2008. Weather Forecast – Wild Weather, Again.

Writing by Dusan on Monday, 31 of December , 2007 at 0

We have seen some wild weather in 2007. All over the World. It was hottest year on the record in Northern Hemisphere. Tornado swept through New York. Worst ever drought in Australia. Ice on Artic.

Of course weather change is influenced by climate change and global warming. How much will all this wild weather cost in insurance claims? How much in additional humanitarian help? How many people in undeveloped countries will loose their precious belonging forever? All this money is lost. Isn’t it really time to invest money wisely and prevent further climate catastrophes? Governments and big corporations should take strong actions. But I guess they still make enough money and don’t care too much. And it doesn’t happen to them. Maybe mindset will be changed when BP headquarters disappear in flood. Of course that won’t happen, only millions of bamboo-made homes will be destroyed.

WIRED magazine, my favorite new website, brings great story about weather in 2007. and predictions for 2008. Please follow link below:

Oh, yes – and Happy New Year!

About peanuts, fruit and cars

Writing by Dusan on Wednesday, 26 of December , 2007 at 0

It’s no news that one of solutions to fight air pollution is bio-fuel. But did you know that an actually first car was powered by bio-fuel?
For example Rudolph Diesel, you already know what he invented. He’s last name become famous. In 1900. on World’s Fair he presented patent of engine running on – peanut oil. But corporations decided that peanuts are better as butter.
And our Henry Ford runs his model T, first mass production car on Ethanol. He’s dream was to produce cars that will use veggie and fruit from our garden to “move us”. Dream that we will produce our own environment friendly fuel in backyard. But big corporations didn’t like that neither. The we wouldn’t have all fuel billionaires and all Middle East wars. We wouldn’t need all factories and air pollution. And we wouldn’t even need Al Gore to save us. World would be very boring. And clean.
Big dreams disappeared in big money.

Waiting on Solaris Ute…

Writing by Dusan on Wednesday, 26 of December , 2007 at 0

In Australia we drive great distances on the hot Sun. And Utes are for sure iconic shape for Aussie car. Then sound like match made in heaven to use long, big Ute covers for solar panels. Future commercial vehicles could be powered by solar panels and run on electric and fuel engine (hybrid). Perfectly fuel engine would be bio-diesel. If we add currently popular idea of using electric cars to plug back in grid and load our houses and office with power created when breaking - in this case - plus power when “baking” on the Sun. Maybe this concept sound a bit crazy, but why not. Talking about commercial vehicles, “solar-Ute” would have plug for power tools too. You could use your collected solar energy for work and have convenience of plugging your tools further away for conventional power outlets. Whenever you can park Ute – there is a free energy.
In my previous post I looked into big opportunity for hybrid commercial vehicles. Adding solar panels, make it “plug-back-in-grid” and with outlet for power tools – would be step forward. Keep Ute as icon by transforming it in iconic solution for the future.
